Chinese New Year kicks off on Friday, February 12, 2021. Spring festival preparations are well under way as we prepare to welcome a new year. 2021 is the Year of the Ox–but what does that mean for us?
In the Chinese Zodiac, the Ox is the second sign–following the Rat. In the traditional myth, the Rat hitched a ride on the Ox during a race to reach the Jade Emperor and then scampered across the finish line first. Sneaky!
The Ox is similar in many ways to the Western Zodiac’s sign of Taurus. Makes sense, right? Both signs are hard workers and very steady, reliable people.
The Ox is also humble and honest–and isn’t associated with the same level of stubbornness that Taurus is known for.
If you were born in the year of the Ox, then 2021 will be an unlucky year for you! While you might think that “your” year should bring good fortune, Chinese astrology actually indicates the opposite. Relationships, career, and even health may be tested this year as the universe throws every obstacle it can in your path.
It might not be the time to make major life decisions–getting engaged, changing careers–given how precarious your fortunes are this year. The Ox’s natural patience and kindness will help see them through this time, however.
The best way to make it through 2021 unscathed is to work hard, avoid snap decisions, and practice staying calm in the face of adversity.
Chinese astrology views each new year as a combination of both an animal and an element. 2021 is defined by the element of metal, and for better or worse, that means we’re in for some hard work.
But hard work isn’t necessarily a bad thing! In fact, you will have opportunities to make great progress in your goals if you’re willing to put in the effort.
This is also a great year to lay the foundation for long-term investments and goals that will take time to be realized. Starting a new degree program, building a house, or investing in the stock market could all be good ways to capitalize the steadfast Ox energy of 2021.
However, keep in mind that there are no “get rich quick” schemes and that any success you experience will be won through discipline.
Lucky colors are white (for metal) as well as yellow and green for the Ox. You can also attract luck by wearing jewelry made from metals.
